Design Notes

Standards

This site is being coded in validated XHTML 1.0, a more cleaner version of HTML, and viewable with (I hope) any browser in the market, even with IE, which tells something. For more information see the Viewable With Any Browser Campaing

It uses validated CSS also and is capable of degrading well with non-CSS browsers (the update information right on the top, while the menu will appear next and below the rest of the information). It has been tested on Lynx and is light in the graphics.

I made an effort to use the less Gif graphics since PNG has better compression (the more the compression, the lighter it will be for the TCP requests to operate).

Mobile Phone Browser

This site will also work on text-only browsers for mobiles like Eudora, and graphical ones like Xiino.

About Javascript/JAVA

This site DOES use Javascript for the visit counter and sends cookies to indentify who is a unique visitor and give me a more accurate figure of the traffic in the site. You may as well configure your browser settings to block any incoming cookies and that will be fine, too. I do not use Java, so it should work ok even with a browser in the highest security level.

Advertisement Free

The site is advertisement-free (not even google-ads) and it will remain so. We won't ask for donations of any kind, nor we will be selling you a thing. We are not affiliated with any political party, a big corporation or the like. Such is the price of the freedom to accuse, criticize and make fun of everything... including us.

We won't encourage you to use any particular browser (even when we think Firefox or Opera just rock); nor to use any particular piece of hardware; nor to wear any particular clothing; nor to think in any particular way. We, like Bertrand Russell, won't die [or kill] for what we belive, because... we might be wrong.

Comments

Any comments, suggestions, complaints, broken-link report, or in general, any question about the website, you can of course feel free to send it to comment section. I will feel free to ignore you as well... nah! Just kidding.

Copyright

This websites follows the copyleft philosophy, and as a basic guideline, verbatim copy and distribution of its content is allowed anywhere in the world, without royalties, in any media, so long as this note, and the copyright notice are present.

Please indicate the source of this information. A simple link to the original or to my homepage would be enough.

This website contains information for which I don't have a copyright. Mainly translations and photographs. The authors have kindly agreed to give me the right to publish such materials, with some conditions. In such cases I will indicate the author in a prominent place, as well a link (whenever possible) to the original work, for which they have the copyright. Such materials are NOT included in my policy and, therefore, must not be copied.

For the case of image material that I use, I would like to indicate my policy.

Bandwidth Theft / Inline Linking

Also known as hot linking, is displaying information from one site in another. My policy is friendly enough to allow the use of the information, but such information must be hosted by whomever uses it, in their own servers, and not directly from my site. Hotlinking is against the etiquette, and it is bandwidth theft.

GNU Software License

Every piece of software here hosted, is under the GNU License.

Policy on third party authors

Every image in this site was created by me, except in the exceptions that I indicate. Every design, photographs, drawings, and images can be reproduced in all, or in part, so long as their origin is indicated, as well with the appropriate credits. It is not that I want to go into court for it, but it is always a good idea to do things appropriately.

Even when I procure that the images here used to illustrate my articles be by me generated (me, Roberto Hoyos), there would be ocassions in which I think using other sources is better. As a general rule, I stick to content belonging to the public domain. Sources such as the US Federal Government, through its agencies (NASA, Dept. Energy, Defense, Library of Congress, etc.). However, I will indicate the authors of the material whenever possible.

If I were to use images or material with copyright, without the author's consent, I will follow the conditions of 'Fair Use' provided in the US legislation.
